“Goddess in a Teapot” is a place for women to come together to talk about and celebrate the many ways in which we experience the sacred and express our creativity in our everyday lives. Most of us have “to do” lists that are so long that it is so easy to go through each day just doing what we need to do and forgetting that every day is full of miracles. The illumination of the sunrise, the noise of our families, the solidness of gravity’s pull against our muscles, the spicy taste of cinnamon and cloves, the joy and pride of creating poems or paintings or knitted scarves or gardens or educated children or businesses or whatever we make – these and thousands of other daily gifts are all divine and worthy of gratitude.
We so often forget that we, also, are sacred and have important things to say. We are each worthy of respect and being listened to and cared for. Each woman has her own unique wisdom that only she knows and that needs to be shared through art, crafts, or other works or it will be lost to all of us. Each of us has been given her life experience so that she may pass on what she has learned and help others in their own journeys. We each have our own destined job to do on this earth, but we have been given one another to help us through each day.
You might be wondering about the name of this site. “Goddess,” a term I use here to mean the sacred in women and our lives, is in the teapot because teapots are both everyday, useful objects, and also have many spiritual and creative meanings — they are transformational, turning water and plants into something completely different; they bring together earth (tea leaves), air (their whistles), fire (heat) and water; they nurture and nourish us; they are that which women gather around to form families and communities.
Here at this site you will find some of my own thoughts and ideas. You will find some blog posts by clicking on the menu at the top, or the most recent posts are listed on the left. Some are just meanderings from my mind. Some will introduce you to women artists, writers, and musicians you might enjoy. A few are hints that I have come up with for making each day a little more sacred and creative. You are also welcome to read some of my published writings, including a novel, short stories, poetry, and essays. All these have places for you to write comments and to share your own stories and thoughts. You will also find some tea recipes and a little about me. So, scooch your chair up to the table, choose your favorite tea cup, pick the tea that is just right for you today, and let’s have a chat.

I love it, Carolyn! The whole symbolism of the teapot — what a great name. Sort of makes me think of the Japanese tea ceremony…
Take care,
Diane

I just picked an avatar for myself, an engraving of Margaret Fuller! Let’s see if it appears!
How cool is that! I love Margaret Fuller!

I love the picture of the mauve sink—I have a turquoise sink that inspired a 1950′d pink and turquoise kitchen. Happy blogging!
Thanks! That is my actual kitchen. It is supposed to be 1930s style since that is when the house was last really renovated and so all the cabinets, etc. (but not the sink), are actually from that time. Your turquoise and pink kitchen must be charming!
